Golden Snub-nosed Monkey

Golden Snub-nosed Monkey (Scientific name: Rhinopithecus) is a type of primate that lives in the mountainous forests of Asia. It is named after its upturned nostrils and the golden or grayish long fur on its body. Currently, known species of golden snub-nosed monkeys include the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey, Yunnan golden snub-nosed monkey, Guizhou golden snub-nosed monkey, Vietnamese golden snub-nosed monkey, and Myanmar golden snub-nosed monkey.

Characteristics:

• Size: Medium-sized, with a body length of about 51 to 83 cm and a tail length approximately equal to the body length.
• Appearance: It has long, shiny fur on its back, with a blue face, and the top of the head, neck, shoulders, upper arms, back, and tail are grayish-black. The sides of the head, neck, body, and inner sides of the limbs are brownish-yellow. The fur color varies by species, for example, the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey has golden fur, while the Guizhou and Yunnan species have black-gray fur, and the Myanmar golden snub-nosed monkey is entirely black.

Habits:

• Habitat: Primarily lives in the dense mountain forests at altitudes of 2000 to 3000 meters.
• Diet: It feeds on wild fruits, tender shoots, bamboo shoots, and other plants.
• Social Structure: Golden snub-nosed monkeys are social animals, living in groups with complex social behaviors and various vocalizations.

Distribution:

• China: The Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou golden snub-nosed monkeys are distributed in regions like Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Yunnan.
• Vietnam: The Vietnamese golden snub-nosed monkey is found in northern Vietnam.
• Myanmar: The Myanmar golden snub-nosed monkey is found in northern Myanmar.
